New York Collage Ensemble (NYCE) was established in order to create a supportive community of collage artists who can provide connection, collaboration, and inspiration for one another. With this mission in mind, NYCE provides a platform for artists of diverse backgrounds who work in a variety of styles and mediums, including mixed media, textiles, analog, and digital collage.
The idea for NYCE was born when Isabelle Milkoff and Susan Lerner met for coffee one afternoon in 2019. They proceeded to invite like-minded artist friends to an initial meeting in February 2020, where great plans were made for a series of in-person meet-ups in the NYC area, only to be immediately thwarted by the pandemic. However, while in-person meetings became impossible, NYCE quickly adapted by moving its gatherings online via Zoom, which ultimately made possible the participation of a wider community of collage enthusiasts from all over the world.
Today, NYCE holds regular in-person and online meetups and has introduced “NYCE Talks,” featuring guest speakers discussing various topics related to collage.
The seven founding members of the NYCE have exhibited their work as a collective in two international group shows: at the Scandinavian Collage Museum in Berkak, Norway, and at the Parc Floral de Paris in Paris, France. They are excited to present their first US group show at the Judy Black Park in Washington, CT, in September 2023.
This show, “Construction|Deconstruction,” explores the many ways in which collage art incorporates deconstructed elements and disparate images, and builds from them a new whole.
The NYCE artists are: Stacey Burgay, Meghan Larimer, Susan Lerner, Isabelle Milkoff, Carol Paik, Amy Putman and Orit Tenzer.
